Mānuka honey comes from the Mānuka plant, which grows wild only in New Zealand. Due to its natural characteristics, Mānuka honey has been extensively researched and has a wide range of uses. In other honeys, whose effects are primarily based on hydrogen peroxide, MGO (methylglyoxal) is present only in small amounts. Up to 1000 mg MGO/kg has been detected in our Mānuka honeys, while other conventional honeys contain a maximum of 20 mg/kg.

In collaboration with Prof. Dr. Henle's team at the Technical University of Dresden, we have developed the MGO testing procedure, which all our Mānuka honeys are tested and certified according to. This guarantees that they contain the MGO quality stated on the product.

In some cases, the stated values are achieved, but are achieved through a type of rapid ripening that damages the honey's other beneficial properties—such as the enzymes—or the honey is diluted, rendering it no longer pure Mānuka honey.
